Notes with a Purpose Teaching Artist
Philip Fortenberry is a pianist, music director, and educator whose career spans Broadway, concert performance, recording, and arts leadership. After 25 years in New York, he relocated to Las Vegas in 2004 and has since become a beloved presence in the city’s musical life. His credits include work on Jersey Boys, Hairspray, Mamma Mia!, and Broadway’s Rocky, where he was associate conductor and pianist; he has also served as music coordinator for The Smith Center’s Broadway Series. A celebrated solo artist, Philip is known for his storytelling at the piano, his concert work across the United States, and his deep connection to the legacy of Liberace, including his role as piano/body double in HBO’s Behind the Candelabra. He also serves on the board of The Composers Showcase of Las Vegas.
His connection to this kind of work is also personal: his sister founded a nonprofit in Mississippi dedicated to supporting women in vulnerable circumstances. As a teaching artist with Lullaby Project – Southern Nevada, Philip brings warmth, compassion, and a gift for deeply expressive collaboration.
